well it's september already and some of what I wanted to get done this year has come to pass
but the inportant thing is that the bookcases are in place
I have something of a library which is scattered around the flat and some in Marks attic
once the next phase of the sorting gets done (books on shelves then stuff sorted into the places the books are currently) I can sort getting the stuff from Marks and get that put away
I have a load of posters around the place that I was wanting to get frames for and put them up, but the frames cost £15 each minimum and although Rob came up with a plan involving MDF and spray adhesive and such that will still cost quite a bit in the long run so I think I may just revert to the basics and get some drawing pins - not as fancy but I'll have art up and wont have to stare at just the white walls
work tomorrow and no time off until sometime in October but using the next 6 weeks or so to keep the pressure on the weight loss thing (routine is by far the most useful thing in this process)
Looking to finish my Pathfinder Campaign around xmas (maybe) anyway I've got 4 dungeons left I think (maybe 5) and then it'll end - then I take an extended not reffing period while Rob takes over then I'll start serious work on the Cthulhu thing
The bones figures are in the country so maybe turn up in the next week or so (then I have 250 figures to sort assemble and paint)
In early December I'll have £300 coming my way from the works xmas savings club and I've been wracking my brains trying to figure out what I'm gonna get for myself and finally decided on a 32GB ipad mini (goes for £350 so will have to add some to it) actually aiming for the 64GB one but thats £430 if I can get them money together will get that one
so some things haven't gone the way I wanted them to but I'm not anywhere near done yet
but for the most part it's going well
J
I'm not sure what size of frame you would require, but check out the 'clip frames' at Wilkos. http://www.wilko.com/search?q=picture+frames. They seem quite large and cost a lot less than a full frame of the same kind, and it would preserve your posters, and walls. :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, check out the Galaxy Tab 2, not new I know, but you get 'more bang for your buck' compared to the Ipad range. I had a go on one in PC World last year and it blew mw away. I think a 10" Samsung would be quite a bit cheaper than a mini Ipad. :)
Let me know about the 'clip frames' if you check them out, or buy them. I wouldn't mind getting some posters for my flat, so any information would be helpful. :)
DeleteI just realised that the link I gave is just a general search of all frames, sorry. I expected it to show the specific page I saw the clip frames on. :D (I feel like an internet newbie :P)
DeleteI don't know if you're aware of this going on, but when I read it I couldn't believe that in this day and age it could happen. http://io9.com/dc-wont-allow-batwomans-gay-marriage-to-be-depicted-1257106266. It is gratifying that people stood up against DC on this, but I am disgusted. If I were still collecting comics, I would stop buying this title at the very least.
ReplyDeleteI'm tempted to find a DC forum and leave a message of support for the creative team behind that comic. Maggie sawyer has been a positive gay character for years, and her storyline should feature marriage inevitably.
DC has made a strong anti-gay statement. But then it is always easier to hate than to be tolerant.
What do you think?
sorry not responding to these earlier but alternating between long days at work and being knackered in the evenings
ReplyDeletethe frames look good (if a littel big for the posters I've got but if positioned right they'll do nicely
as for the Batwoman thing portraying homosexuality in the media (especially the Americans I think) they will make a decision then either stick to it or bow to pressure and relent
since for the most part comics are seen to be a kids thing the portayal of gay superheroes can sometimes kick off the very vocal anti gay factions in society and then DC look to sales
and then they make a choice made based on money, it's a shame but there you are
but on the other hand Alan Scott (in Earth 2) is in the first issue a gay man who loses his lover/fiance in a train crash and that loss is part of the Reason he becomes Green Lantern
so it's not as though the whole company is 'anti gay' but sometimes companies (especially very publically visible ones) have to make choices to protect the bottom line
I love DC comics and have a standing order that I look forward to getting - theres been no reason given for not depicting the marriage but it will be interesting to see how DC reacts to public opinion
I totally understand about you not responding immediately, you have a busy life, so no problem. :)
DeleteYou're right, DC is protecting itself from negative public opinion, which is understandable. Like when they fired the guy in C.S.I. because he was arrested for drug possession, no second chance. I believe that the decision was based on protecting the show. In a more enlightened world DC might see the benefits of positive gay role models, teaching kids about tolerance for the future. I personally would like to feel that I live in a safe environment to 'come out' in, but sadly at the moment I don't.
I didn't know that about Alan Scott. Is that an alternate DC universe thing?
I might look into the frames thing for my flat, although I just spent 10 minutes trying to hang a mirror straight. :P I have decided that when I have finished this decorating I am not painting again for TWENTY YEARS. :D
I don't know if you're aware of the following, but I thought I'd give you the link just in case. :)

Enjoy!!
Hi Julian
ReplyDeleteJust checking in. I haven't heard from you in a few days. I hope you're well. How are the Doctor Who figures going? Did you check out the link I gave you? It sounds really cool.
M
3 figures so far Matt Smith, Davros and the Cybercontroller they're pretty cool really and looking forward to getting the set
ReplyDeleteThe Who lineup for November is alright but the Watch TV stuff is (and they admit this) the same preogrammes that the rest of the world have already seen - so still dissapointed in UK coverage but maybe theres more to come
Yeah, I hate Watch. Every time they show David Tennants final episodes they edit the, not for violence, there are simply large chunks of dialogue missing. Plus they cut out the Doctor giving the winning lottery ticket at Donna's wedding. Though they do manage to show the questionable scene where the Doctor sends Captain Jack a 'friend' to play with.
ReplyDeleteOn another subject, I am about to order a new desk, and my current on is in pretty good condition. It is a wooden corner desk in three pieces with lots of desk space. It was suggested to me today by Mam that I mention it in case you are interested. from the corner it is 133cms to the end along each wall, and71cms high. It has a drawer and keyboard shelf, plus room for a printer and tower. And the price? £0 now and £0 to pay. :D Let me know if you're interested.
Matt
I should add that it doesn't go right into the corner, there is a triangular gap. It is perfect for a desktop monitor and tower, while leaving space to work. ;)
DeleteI'll assume you're not interested.
ReplyDeleteM.
sorry things a bit mental at teh moment - can't take the desk as I ahve no available corners to put it and the set up I have currently is fine - thanks anyway

ReplyDeletedon't you think deleting all your comments is a little bit counterproductive?
I'm sorry, had a really bad couple of weeks. Not to do with you. I'm not even sure why I did it.
ReplyDeleteI just want to add that the deleted messages were not negative, they were links to Doctor Who stuff and other entertainment based things. Sorry again.
